We recently furnished this beautiful new home located on a corner lot in Ocean City, America’s favorite family resort.  The owners are retired and spend most of their time here, frequently hosting children and grandchildren, volunteering, and living their best life at the shore.  They wanted comfortable and functional decor that would enhance their lifestyle.

The living room area in the open-concept second floor is centered around a fireplace with custom stacked slate surround, which provides the palette of aquas for the upholstered furniture.  Two swivel gliders in Sunbrella fabric face a coordinated striped loveseat and instead of a cocktail table, we placed four custom cube ottomans that offer the most functionality for when the grandkids visit.  The fabric harmonizes all the upholstered pieces with the fireplace and the finish was chosen to tie in with the flooring.

In the adjacent dining area, a solid wood double pedestal table provides seating for eight when family and friends come over, but doubles as a luminous work space for the owners’ work-from-home projects.  The wood finishes and seat cushion fabric were chosen to echo the colors of the living room area while the louver back chairs add a subtle coastal touch.

Coastal accessories make all the difference!  We combined two-tone shelves with a unique whale side table to create a fun but understated atmosphere.  Notice how both of these items feature a lot of negative space that keeps the room feeling open and airy.

The bedrooms are a sanctuary designed to encourage rest and relaxation, -especially for rambunctious grandchildren.  Space is a premium at the beach house, so this furniture is all scaled down with low headboards, small nightstands, and hide-away options:  The master bedroom features a platform bed with six storage drawers (that’s like another dresser!) while a roll-out trundle under the bunkbed sleeps the extra guest.

The home would not be complete without outdoor furniture for the spacious decks that look down on the bustling streets.  Made from recycled milk jugs, these sturdy pieces feature a wood grain two-tone combination, hidden hardware, and contoured seats for excellent comfort.  The colors tie in with both the interior floors and the exterior black trim. Entertaining family and friends during long summer evenings is the greatest pleasure of this lucky homeowner!
